NEWS

Dear Valued Customer,

Public Water Supply District No. 2 of Jackson County is a water distribution system that serves the southern portion of Raytown, Missouri. As such, we purchase all of the water we distribute from the Cities of Independence and Kansas City. This year we are experiencing cost increases from these Cities of 9 and 12% and are expecting more increases in the near future. As a result of this rising cost of water from our wholesalers, PWSD #2 Board of Directors will effect an increase in all of the Districts water rates. Starting with water purchased after May 1, 2012 the base rate will increase $.96 per month or $1.93 for bi-monthly and a unit charge increase of $.27 for each additional 1,000 gallons.

New Rates

Base monthly rate (2,000 gallons of water) $16.98

Base bi-monthly rate (4,000 gallons of water) $33.96

Each additional 1,000 gallons $7.10

This represents a 5% increase to our average customer.

In the past 6 years PWSD #2 has experienced rate increases from each supplier of over 50%. In that same 6 year time period, rates to our Customers have only risen by 15%.

NEW PIPELINE REPLACEMENT UPDATE FOR MAY & JUNE 2012

The Board of Directors of PWSD #2 has approved the following pipeline replacements:

77th Terrace between Raytown Road and Arlington Avenue will receive new six inch in diameter, ductile iron pipe. Three new fire hydrants will be added to the current two, giving this neighborhood greater fire protection. This job will start after Memorial day and is expected to be completed in approximately 60 days.

Sterling Avenue between 350 Highway and 83rd Street will receive new eight inch ductile iron pipe, replacing the current six inch cast iron. A new six inch waterline connecting Harvard Avenue and five additional fire hydrants will all provide more water to the area, increasing pressure, flow and fire protection. This job will begin as soon as school lets out at Raytown South High School and is expected to be completed in approximately 60 days.

Pardon our progress, please drive carefully in construction zones.  Every attempt will be made to limit lane closures and detours.  All projects are scheduled to last less than 90 days.

The District will continue improving the water system for our customers, providing great tasting, safe water, now and for generations to come.
